Burton Shop Update 15th April 2023

It been a little over a month since we were able to partially re-open our Burton HQ and the response has been fantastic, thank you!  Having customers back again gives the place a wonderful atmosphere.

We're recruiting additional technicians and customer service agents to meet with demand and are delighted to welcome several new members to our team.

The product display build was paused while we focused our build team focused their efforts on exiting our Loughborough premises, which is now complete, as well as finalizing our move into our new Manufacturing HQ in Coalville.

The good news is we are now able to begin building all the bespoke product displays and when complete we can have our full and proper Grand Opening!

Burton Shop Update 2nd March 2023

We are open for visitors at our new HQ in Burton! 

What an effort by everyone involved!  

Although it’s not our official 'Grand Opening' (this will come later) it’s been amazing to see this new shop take shape and now to see customers coming through the doors is fantastic.

We've still a way to go, but we are almost there!

All our stock is on site, and we can do complete bow set ups or just a few bits and pieces.  Whatever is needed.  We can do it.

We’re calling it a partial opening because we haven’t yet been able to complete the bespoke product displays.  So we've set up some temporary service stations in the shooting range while we continue with fit out in the main showroom.  

I must admit, it was a way bigger project than I first thought.  

We’ve installed a lift, installed toilets, all new electrics, all new plumbing, offices, flooring, walls, ceilings, absolutely everything!  I’m super proud of what we’ve achieved.

A big shout out must go to Adam Jones, who has over seen the entire build.  We had to overcome a last-minute modification required by building control that meant working through the weekend to meet our opening deadline of March 1st.  His team demolished and rebuilt a section of the shop, and we were able to open!

And it’s not just our regular crew who have contributed.  Simon Scott, Susan Corless, Adam Ravenscroft, Carl Richards, Kirsty Robb, Neil Bridgewater, Lewis Haslam all gave up their time to help and they are absolute stars!

So, although the full archery superstore experience is still to be unveiled, we are open and look forward to seeing you in person to show you around.

Burton Shop Update 13th February 2023.

We are accepting bookings!  

One year ago, we had the crazy idea to purchase an old two-story warehouse in Burton on Trent and convert it into our new HQ.

Step 1 was to turn the ground floor into our main product warehouse and online despatch. This change would give us the opportunity to streamline all our processes and further expand our stock holding, ensuring our product availability, despatch time and pricing remain second to none.

Through most of 2022 the warehouse team, headed up by Dan Jones, Luke Gill and Suz Richards did an amazing job of moving our entire Loughborough stockholding 20 miles away to Burton while remaining fully operational. (More on our incredible warehouse team later..)

With the warehouse move well in hand our focus could shift to step 2.

Realize a dream.

Create an archery shop that transforms expectations of what the retail experience can be in our industry.

And this dream is no longer only a dream but soon to be reality. We have mostly completed the build and fit out of what has been a huge project for us! But the word ‘mostly’ means we have some good news and some not so good news.

The good news is we are now accepting bookings and will be welcoming visitors from March 1st 2023! Please visit our website to book an appointment if you need technical help. (Walk-ins for simple purchases welcome)

The not so good news it will only be a partial opening, while we continue with the final parts of the fit out and building of the product displays. Due to the size of this project and despite the best efforts of all involved we have over run.

This means that our full, grand opening will be at a future date. But it will be worth it! All stock is on site, but we will need to bring it up from downstairs to view.

This partial opening will allow us to start welcoming back customers while we finish building our dream.

Burton Shop Update 20th December 2022

It is with a mixture of happiness and a little sadness that we are closing the doors on our Loughborough shop for the last time on Friday.

Happiness and excitement for our upcoming relocation!

Sadness that we leave Loughborough after always having a base here for 47 years when my father, Chris Jones, first set up manufacturing compound bows at Bull-in-the-Hollow farm in 1975.

When we moved to our current Great Central Road premises, we never thought we would outgrow it. But outgrow it we did and being unable to find suitable alternative premises in Loughborough we’ve had to make the difficult decision to move out of our hometown where Merlin was born.

We’ve had a wonderful time here over the years. It hasn’t always been easy. But when Chris set up the business all those years ago, I don’t think he could have anticipated the journey he set us on. (or maybe he did, and it was only the rest of us that didn’t know!)

47 years later, and a lot of hard work from an excellent team of people, we are moving again into a new phase of our business.

So, what’s happening next?

Lots of exciting things!

Our new HQ is on Wetmore Road, Burton.

Our warehouse and online sales processing have already moved and are fully operational.

Our office and customer service team will be joining them from January 3rd 2023.

Our new flagship superstore, including a 10-lane indoor shooting range will be opening late February/ Early March 2023 at the same address in Burton.

And that’s not all. Our MYBO manufacturing department is also currently relocating to its own HQ in Coalville!

So, as you can imagine, things have been a little hectic lately. I’m very excited for the future and I’m looking forward to sharing more information with you from both MYBO HQ and MERLIN HQ.
