Hand shock and noise
(Posted on 25/07/2018)
I have been shooting the supreme model at my club for about 3 months now and am very pleased with the performance. The only issues i have are that it is not as quiet or hand shock free as stated in Jim's review. Also it is impossible to get the brace height below 8" with the string provided. I solved this by getting a hand made string from grizzly strings.

I have waited much too long to review the Cottonmouth "deluxe". It's loud and have a distinct hand shook in too the fingers. But the big problem is, that the glass on the lower limb on the belly side start too come off.
Sorry for my crapy English.

esperaba algo mejor

Smooth as Grizzly Jim Said
(Posted on 07/04/2018)
So... I've been eyeing this bow for a while, ever since I saw Grizzly Jim discussing it on the Merlin YouTube page. Frankly, I just couldn't afford one back then, but then one day I saw that Merlin and Timber Creek were offering a limited edition, black-limbed version of this bow, and I knew I had to get it. Especially since Grizzly Jim contributed in the design of this bow. So I bit the bullet and bought it back in October of 2017.

The bow draws really smooth, much smoother than the Timber Creek Stalker, but then again it's 8 inches longer than the Stalker. It's also a very critical, but very accurate bow. It should be noted that it's not cut past centre, but to centre. One thing I was really sadden by, was the fact that the one I got was the model with the Timber Creek PC, which meant that I didn't get a bamboo model. I remember Jim stressing how much he loves having bamboo in the limbs. While this PC model still shoots great, I would've loved to see what the bamboo one felt like.

Now, the downside: the only downside I felt this bow had, after having it for 7 months now, is the fact that the grip wasn't contoured as greatly as the ones show in photos as well as the one shown in some video reviews. The one I have, has a rather chunky handle, and the colouring of the wood wasn't matching the ones seen in the photos. While this isn't a big deal, it would've been nice to get one that shared the same aesthetics as the ones marketed.

It really is Supreme!

I've bought a lot Timber Creek products, I've had this bow for way over a year now and it’s by far my favourite Timber Creek purchase and I would highly recommend it. I have a Supreme edition and its elegant design has gained a lot of complaints from my fellow archers. It's a joy to shoot. Its smooth, quiet, fast. The Technowood, Padauk and White Maple accents with Palisander Limbs make a very aesthetically pleasing bow.

If the saying "a poor work man blames his tools" is true, then good results should also pay tribute to the tools as well. Therefore, perhaps I shouldn''t take the credit for my improvement in accuracy. Having a bow you’re comfortable with does lend its self to a better performance.

The handle has a sublime ‘pistol grip’ profile that fits the hand perfectly for a natural draw. A nicely centred arrow shelf. Reinforced limb tips. The bow isn’t heavy. But it’s power makes this bow a standout achiever.

I would recommend this bow.

Not strong enough
(Posted on 16/05/2017)
I had the cottonmouth 55# standard and must say shot so well, but after a couple of weeks noticed the handle had cracked, just above the shelf. Merlin were fantastic with offering a replacement and also a reduced upgrade to the supreme 50# model. I'm sorry to say this bow has also cracked in the same place. I have never broke a bow before and never dry fire etc.

I love my Cottonmouth! So smooth to shoot, whisper quiet and sits in the hand so comfortably, it's like a dream! Light, graceful and beautiful - makes me feel (and look!) like a better archer. I adore it!

It's Love.

I'm going to review this with the caveat that I'm an absolute beginner and I don't know what I'm talking about. This is my first bow, purchased under the sneering gazes of my Olympic recurve club ("why don't you go and buy a 'real bow'. Oh the irony). A slight negative to mention straight away is the top limb had a couple of large flaws in the zebrano laminate. To be fair to merlin, they immediately agreed to swap it out but from some other reviews I doubt you'll get a perfect one. Timber Creek probably need to up their quality control. The offer was too late for me anyway as I had excitedly run out and shot the hell out of it. :)
I was a bit concerned about buying this on-line as I hadn't tried it and the two other bows I had my heart on were 4-6 months waiting list which I wasn't prepared to wait for. I needn't have worried. It's brilliant. I can see why Grizzly Jim was hilariously overcome with emotion reviewing it.

I bought a 45 lbs and it is much much faster than a 50lbs that i have, with no hand shock at all, you just stop feeling the tension of the bow. I am very happy with this bow that give me no excuse at all when i miss, its definetvly my fault and is much faster to get better like that and easier to spot my mistakes as well as what i am doing right. Plus its just marvelously beatifull. My only dislikes is that the string is not perfectly finished(looks ugly but dont affect functionality) and that there was nothng else sended with the bow except for the string, an arrow rest would of been nice. This bow is less than half the price of a top class bow and do not ask for anything to one of those. (sry for my english its not my native language)

(Posted on 12/07/2016)
I have been using the Cottonmouth for nearly 2 months now, it is my first bare bow.
It quickly became my favourite bow, and I have been using it every other day. The draw is very smooth, and the bow fit nicely in my hand.
I am very impressed and pleased with it.

My New Favorite Longbow
(Posted on 24/06/2016)
I've had my Cottonmouth for about 2 and a half months now, I wanted to give it some time to use before I wrote my review. This has been one of my favorite longbows I have ever shot, I love this bow. I was worried because my other longbows are 64" I had no problems with this bow being 62" it's smooth.
The Cottonmouth is also surprisingly quick, like sometimes I swear I'm shooting my recurve bow quick. But I am shooting 55# at 28 inches, so that could be another reason. The bamboo limbs are superb, it's hard to go back to any other wood once you try it.

If I had to point out any negatives, I've noticed this bow is kind of critical. If you miss or make a mistake, it really shows. But that's not the bows fault I keep making mistakes, if anything it's a good coach.

Overall this bow is amazing, for the price, you definitely get what you pay for and maybe more. It's also beautiful in design, you know it looks amazing when other archers keep saying "That's a nice bow" or "Where did you get that? It's shooting those arrows out fast."

The riser cracked after a few shots. (No dry fire.)
If I continue to shoot the bow it will for sure come apart.

I have just purchased this bow and after a few dozen arrows I am impressed with the bow. Four stars only because my techno wood colour has some small areas where it isn't stained black/grey.
Here is a video review i made of this bow:

Cottomouth is great.
(Posted on 29/05/2016)
I'm a french archer, I'm very sorry for my bad english. I order a Timber Creek Cottonmouth deluxe bow 70#. It's a beautiful bow, with beautiful woods, and it's a beautiful perfect assembly. It's a small, speed and accurate bow. This bow is perfect the hunting, or 3d shooting or bushcraft, it's small, it's perfect for moove in forest... I really like the "pistol" grip, but it's small for my hand. It's speed as my recurve bow. I can shoot heavy arrow with it with lot of precision. I like the reflex deflex limbs, the bow is speed and soft. I really like this bow, it's one of my best bow.
it's really great.
Just a little bad thing, there are 3 little hits because of the transport.

Ordered online, never tried, completely satisfied!
(Posted on 01/05/2016)
What gorgeous shooter!! I ordered from the US, and I had to rely completely on reviews. I am so happy with the results! I can confirm there is virtually zero handshock, the bow is wickedly fast, and contrary to some other reviews I do not find it to be overly critical. Probably not a starter bow, but with good form and proper tuning this bow shoots deadly straight every time! Merlin archery was wonderful, extremely fast shipping, and a gorgeous bow! I was worried that the standard finish would look plain and unatural, but to the contrary it is really beautiful. 55# standard, 400 spine 430 grn Gold Tip trads. No crono, but virtually no fall off at 25 yards. My self bow shoots at 153 fps, and this is blindingly fast by comparison. I would estimate my setup is at leat 175-180 fps. Probably faster. I also thought my string came shipped a little long, but it was just unwound. Twisted it to the appropriate brace height and the bow is whisper quiet with no silencers needed. Bravo Timber Creek, Grizzly Jim, and Merlin Archery! Thank you very much!

Amazing bow, love every second of shooting with it and I feel that my leap of faith really paid off. Never wanted to go out shooting as much as I want now.

The only bad thing I have to say is that it said on the homepage that it's "Supplied with Flemish Fast Flight string" but mine wasn't, so I received it on a friday and had to wait for another week for the string to be delivered to be able to get out on the field with it. Which was very disappointing.

But as I said the BOW is fantastic

Impressive, beautiful bow
(Posted on 21/04/2016)
Just got my Cottonmouth Deluxe today! Super fast delivery to the US. Right out of the box it looked as good as it did in pictures/videos. Put on a bear hair rest and plate, strung it up to about 7.5", threw a nock on it and first arrow hit the mark at 30 yards. I took a gamble not knowing how this bow shot compared to my Bear Grizzly, but let one fly anyway. Very impressed at the smoothness of the draw, speed of the arrow, appearance, and craftsmanship. Very light weight. Thanks Craig, Timber Creek, and Merlin Archery for a really nice experience and great bow!

(Posted on 03/02/2016)
I am not an experienced archer having only started in July last year, obviously the first thing I did was grow a beard, after that was sorted I proceeded to try different bows I love my compound which I bought from Merlin, as much fun as it is I just didn't feel Grizzly Jim enough, so I bought a Ragim recurve, still not Grizzly enough. During my short time in archery I have tried many bows. As my coach "Roger", he doesn't know he is my coach yet, ounce said to me "If you want to hit gold after gold shoot a sighted bow, but if you want hitting a gold to mean something, shoot traditional" and he is right! I wanted to buy this bow as soon as I saw it, I suppose it seduced me with its seductive curves and wanton promise of romantic sunny days hitting gold after gold to the cheers of my fellow club members "The Sway Bowmen" and whereas this has not quite come true yet, my shooting has improved, and much of said improvement can be attributed to the confidence that this bow inspires! I am 4'10" with a draw of 24" and yet this bow seems to compensate, to a degree, for my err short comings. So to sum up, I love this bow and it really does go well with my beard. Thank you to Grizzly Jim for the work he put into the Cotton Mouth, for answering all my questions and for representing us bearded folk with such sua de vivre. May the beard be with you!

Nearly excellent

Firstly thanks to Merlin for dispatching the bow so quickly as it was needed urgently for a present. Great service.
It's early days but so far so good. The bow looks great and is quick for a low poundage bow. I marked it down one star because for £300 I would like to have seen at least an arrow rest and strike plate included, and maybe even a sleeve of some kind. You literally get the bow and string in the box, nothing else. Not a big issue, just a little bit frustrating.

Wow !!!

Thanks to Merlin folk for getting bow to me before christmas.
I have the standard in 35#
Bow is well made, everything being smoothed to perfection including string grooves.
Finished with a satin non reflective coating. The black and grey techno wood is excellent and makes the bamboo jump out like the pinstriping on a custom paint job.
Draw is super smooth and there is little to know hand shock.
The grip is very comfortable and I love the palm swell.
Fellow club members all commented how good it looked.
I wouldnt hesitate to recommend this bow

Lovely finished, smooth to shoot and so quiet, no string dampers needed.
I only have one tiny issue and that is the finish on the bit just below the string groove it's just not as sweet as the rest of the bow, however that's just aesthetics.
I would recommend this bow to any one who asked
