Diamond Recurve Bow String - BCY Trophy

A note from Merlin on bow string selection.

When we talk about string length we are talking about bow length, not the actual length of the string. For example, if you phoned up and ordered a 68" string, we would assume it is for a 68" bow and actually measure around 64.5".

Even more confusingly, recurve bow lengths can not just be measured tip to tip, but should take into consideration the curves of the limbs. (The bow length should be written on your bottom limb in a format similar to 68"@32#. 68" being the length of the bow, and 32# being the draw weight measured at 28" draw length)

There are a lot of different materials, and the price varies considerably. These price differences represent not only the differences in material cost, but the quality of manufacturing.

We have selected a range of strings that offer the best over all price/quality match, but are not necessarily the cheapest (nor most expensive) on the market.

To sum up - there is more to a string than price!

Dacron is the typical entry level material, used extensively in our archery kits partly because of its lower cost, but mostly because the material has more stretch, less shock and is kinder to wooden bows. Look to the String Flex CLASSIC Dacron strings.

Dacron is still the material of choice for traditional archers due to its soft shooting characteristics on wooden field bows and longbows. The TRADITIONAL CLASSIC and TRADITIONAL FLEMISH are designed for these bows.

Fast Flight is the next step up for modern recurve bows. The lower stretch offers better performance and greater speed. If you have a modern recurve bow with a metal handle then you should consider upgrading to fast flight. The String Flex PRO recurve strings are competition quality and the default choice for most intermediate archers.

If you really mean business with your shooting then the modern materials such as BCY 452X and BCY Trophy are superb. Lower stretch, lower creep, better stability and more speed are advantages you can expect from these strings. The String Flex SUPRA and DIAMOND strings are examples of strings using high end materials, but also pre stretched and manufactured under tension. These strings come highly recommended. If you have spent over £300 on a fancy bow then why not treat yourself to a fancy string?

It may the cheapest extra points you ever bought.
